The golden light of sunset contrasts with a winter scene at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.
With the South Rim at 7,000 feet above sea-level the temperatures can get quite cold. A colder than normal storm brought heavy snows to the canyon with snowfall reaching all the way to Phantom Ranch 5,000 feet below in the bottom of the canyon.
This photo was captured at sunset on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2015.
